What Is Pigment & Vascular Removal

Advanced IPL treatment for clearer, more even-toned skin

Pigment & Vascular Removal uses advanced Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology to target unwanted pigmentation, visible vascular concerns, and persistent facial redness — including rosacea — within the skin.

By delivering carefully calibrated pulses of light, the treatment selectively targets melanin and haemoglobin beneath the skin's surface — helping to reduce sunspots, thread veins, and rosacea-related redness while improving overall skin clarity and tone.

At Caldwell Cosmetics, we use the Lynton DYNAMIX® IPL System, trusted by clinics across the UK for its safety, precision, and clinically effective results.

Treating Rosacea with IPL

A clinically effective approach to persistent facial redness

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition characterised by persistent redness and visible blood vessels. While it cannot be cured, IPL is one of the most effective clinical treatments available for managing its visible symptoms.

Pulses of light target the haemoglobin within dilated blood vessels, causing them to collapse and be gradually reabsorbed by the body. Over a course of treatments, clients typically experience a significant reduction in redness, fewer visible vessels, and a calmer, more balanced complexion.

Because rosacea is an ongoing condition, a maintenance programme is usually recommended alongside trigger avoidance to preserve results long-term. Your practitioner will discuss a plan tailored to your skin at consultation.

What to Expect

Your treatment journey

Before treatment begins, you'll have a detailed consultation to assess your skin concerns, medical history, and suitability for IPL therapy.

Your practitioner will identify the type of pigmentation or vascular concern being treated - including whether rosacea is a factor — and create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your skin type and goals.

  1. 1

    Skin Preparation

The treatment area is cleansed and prepared to ensure optimal IPL delivery and skin safety. Protective eyewear is provided.

  2. 2

    IPL Application

Calibrated pulses of light are delivered into the skin, selectively targeting unwanted pigment and visible blood vessels. Most clients describe the sensation as a gentle warmth or mild snap.

  3. 3

    Natural Breakdown Process

Vascular: The body gradually breaks down and reabsorbs treated blood vessels, leading to reduced redness and visible veins over time.

Pigment: Targeted pigmented areas may crust and darken temporarily before naturally flaking away, revealing clearer skin beneath.

  4. 4

    Post-Treatment Care

Cooling products and SPF are applied to soothe and protect the skin. You'll receive full aftercare guidance before leaving the clinic.

Pigmented areas may temporarily darken before naturally fading over the following days, while vascular and rosacea concerns gradually reduce in visibility as the skin heals.

Most clients see progressive improvement over a course of treatments, with clearer, brighter, and more even-toned skin developing over time. Rosacea clients typically begin to see meaningful reduction in redness after 3 sessions, with continued improvement thereafter.

Single Session vs Course of Treatments

Understanding the best route for lasting improvement

Single Session

A starting point for improvement

Visible initial skin brightening
Suitable for mild concerns
Minimal downtime
Limited correction for deeper concerns
Insufficient for rosacea management

Course of Treatments

Best for long-term correction

Progressive pigment reduction
Improved vascular clearing
Effective rosacea management over time
Long-term collagen stimulation
Requires multiple appointments

Key Benefits

Why clients choose IPL for pigment, vascular, and rosacea concerns

  • Reduces unwanted pigmentation - target sunspots, freckles, and uneven skin tone.
  • Improves redness & vascular concerns - minimise thread veins, broken capillaries, spider naevi, and port wine stains.
  • Manages rosacea symptoms - reduce persistent facial redness and visible vessels over a course of treatments.
  • Stimulates collagen production - support smoother, firmer, healthier-looking skin.
  • Minimal downtime - return to most normal activities immediately following treatment.

Aftercare

Protecting your skin post-treatment

  • Mild redness, warmth, or sensitivity may occur temporarily after treatment - this is a normal response and usually settles within a few hours.
  • Pigmented areas may appear darker for several days before naturally flaking away - do not pick or exfoliate the area.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure before and after treatment wherever possible, and wear SPF 30+ daily to protect treated skin and maintain results.
  • Avoid harsh skincare products, active acids, retinoids, and excessive heat immediately following treatment.
  • Rosacea clients should also avoid known triggers - alcohol, spicy food, extreme temperatures - for 48 hours post-treatment.
  • Personalised aftercare instructions will be provided during your appointment.
